the-united-states-returns-another-64-migrants-to-cuba

The United States Coast Guard Service (USCG) delivered 64 rafters to Cuba on Sunday and with them there are 2,998 irregular migrants returned to the island from various countries in the region so far in 2023, reported the Cuban Ministry of the Interior.

This group of repatriated Cubans (54 men and 10 women) through the port of Orozco in the Artemisa province (west) left the country illegally by sea and were intercepted by the US Coast Guard in the Florida Straits.

Most of its members are citizens residing in the provinces of Matanzas and Mayabeque, according to the authorities.

Two of the returned Cubans “were transferred to the investigative bodies, because before getting involved in the illegal departures they were investigated as possible perpetrators of serious criminal acts,” the official statement added.

The return of irregular migrants is part of the migration agreements signed between Cuba and the United States, through which 2,165 citizens have been returned to the island this year in 31 operations of the US Coast Guard Service.
