SAN JUAN – Agents of the Puerto Rico Police and Air and Maritime Operations (AMO) of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) captured three people with 2,916 pounds (1,324 kilos) of cocaine valued at 17.8 million dollars, reported this Sunday.

As detailed by local authorities in a report, the operation took place at 8:45 pm on March 31, half a mile (0.08 kilometers) from the Buena Vista sector in Humacao, a town on the east coast of Puerto Rico.

The suspects were traveling in a 35-foot (10-meter) boat, where they were transporting 40 bales, which after carrying out the field test, tested positive for cocaine.

When accounting for the drug, he totaled 1,324 kilos of cocaine, with an approximate value of $17,874,000 dollars.

The nationality of the three people was not disclosed.

Meanwhile, the US Drug Enforcement Agency assumed jurisdiction of this case.

This drug trafficking operation in Puerto Rico is the second carried out this weekend, after federal and local authorities arrested three Venezuelans on Saturday, who tried to enter the island with 3,051 pounds (1,384 kilos) of cocaine valued at 32 million dollars.
