chaos-on-twitter:-how-to-know-if-an-account-is-verified-by-payment-or-relevance

Several months have passed since Elon Musk bought Twitter and everything seems to indicate that things within this company are still “upside down”, which continues to generate a lot of confusion among users of the platform.

One of the most controversial measures taken by Musk for Twitter was the issue of paying a subscription for users to maintain certain privileges, such as appearing in the “For You” tab of all users, as well as the issue of verification. of the accounts.

From this last point, those who want the blue tick to appear on their profile must be subscribed to Twitter Blue, which implies paying $11 dollars per month, something that well-known company accounts and celebrities have decided not to do.

The idea of executing this measure is that, precisely, in the “For you” section, where we select what may be of most interest to us according to the algorithm, only verified accounts appear, which would imply that they publish “tweets of relevance”.

The problem is that many believe that there will be users who will appear in this section with accounts to impersonate others, to troll or defame just because they were able to pay the subscription.

Currently, the Twitter verification tick is displayed in 3 different ways: blue, which is for people such as organizations, gold, which is exclusive to organizations and companies, and gray, which is exclusive to accounts linked to the government.

Recently, the company has begun to remove the famous blue tick from those accounts that obtained it prior to the creation of Twitter Blue; however, the New York Times indicates that around 10,000 organizations with the most followers on said social network and 500 highly valued advertisers are exempt from this change.

The BBC also reported that some media such as CNN, the Los Angeles Times, or the Washington Post have the gold seal despite publicly saying they would not pay for such verification. The same happens in the world of entertainment, since some celebrities like LeBron James or Ice-T, who despite their criticism of this system continue to have verification.

The point is that Twitter announced that it would start to remove the popcorn from those accounts that have not subscribed to Twitter Blue from April 1, but everything seems to indicate that it has not been applied to all accounts since there are many that have not. They have paid and still keep the badge.
