Former President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, insisted on the Republican magnate’s mantra that the accusation of his client, accused of irregularly paying a porn actress during the 2016 election campaign so that she would not reveal a sexual encounter, is part of a political persecution.
The former New York president “is preparing for a battle. This is something, which we obviously believe is political persecution and I think people on both sides of the political spectrum believe it, is a complete abuse of power,” Tacopina said during an intervention on the ABC television program “This Week”. .
Trump has routinely resorted to conspiracy theories, witch hunts and political persecution to explain political setbacks, such as the 2016 electoral defeat, or judicial investigations.
On Sunday night, on his social network “Truth” he again referred to his electoral defeat and the legal cases that he has open, describing them as an assault against “our nation.”
“Our once beautiful America is now a nation in decline. Insurgents and radical leftist thugs have taken over our country and are rapidly destroying it,” she wrote.
For the former president, the Democrats “are using the levers of law enforcement, as well as the FBI and Department of Justice, which have turned them into their weapons, to interfere, manipulate and steal our once HOLY ELECTIONS. Now we are living in a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, but we will come back and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Tacopina insisted that the businessman is a “tough guy” who “is ready for this fight.”
“We are ready to fight and I hope that this progresses as quickly as possible so that he is exonerated,” he settled.
Trump is scheduled to appear on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. before the judge who will read him his charges, which have not been disclosed so far.
According to Tacopina, the courts will close at noon to avoid the movement of people while Trump’s hearing takes place.
At the same time of his appearance, a protest of his supporters is called, led by the ultra-conservative congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene in front of the courts in southern Manhattan.
Tacopino once again described his accusation as “a joke” and emphasized the innocence of his client.
According to him, the lawyers of the porn actress Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump at that time (2016) signed a “totally legal” confidential conciliation agreement, which did not violate electoral campaign finance laws, an issue around which revolved the prosecution’s investigation.
For the lawyer, the charges, which according to various sources could reach thirty, will be at most “misdemeanors” that have already prescribed.
