In less than a week, FIFA has been in charge of withdrawing the organization of a World Cup for two nations. After withdrawing the organization of the U-21 World Cup to Indonesia, now it has been Peru that will not be able to host the U-17 World Cup that will take place from November 10 to December 22.
After extensive discussions, the highest soccer body agreed with the Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) to withdraw the organization of the tournament from the country, alleging “its inability to meet its commitments and complete the necessary infrastructure to play the tournament.”
FIFA concluded by thanking the FPF for its effort and that it “does not rule out organizing a tournament in Peru in the future.”
Despite the change in plans, FIFA assured that the scheduled date from the beginning will be maintained.
Peruvian Football Federation acknowledges failures
Once the news was known, the FPF spoke detailing that despite the government’s willingness to complete the works, the works could not be completed within the established deadlines.
“Despite the will of the government authorities to specify the obligations assumed as a country before FIFA, its execution unit failed to comply with the processes within the established deadlines,” said the highest soccer body in Peru.
