A passenger on a Virgin Voyages cruise ship died over the weekend after falling from the ship’s balcony, landing on a lower deck and colliding with another person.

Shortly after its initial departure on Sunday, the cruise line’s Valiant Lady was en route to the island of Roatan, Honduras, when there was a “medical emergency” involving a passenger, a Virgin Voyages spokesperson said in a statement. which Business Insider got.

“This passenger jumped from his balcony to a lower floor and, despite receiving immediate medical attention, passed away. We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and our hearts and thoughts go out to this person’s loved ones,” the outlet reported.

The passenger who fell also hit another passenger on the lower deck, but that person was not seriously injured, the outlet quoted the spokesman as saying. It should be noted that the exact location of the cruise ship at the time of the accident is unknown.

However, after the accident in which the passenger died, it is believed that the cruise ship was “immediately redirected to Miami”, although it later departed again to resume the cruise with some changes to the planned itinerary.

A YouTuber who was on the cruise shared a video of the announcements being made to passengers on board, including informing them that the ship was turning around around 11 p.m. “due to a medical emergency.”

J. Alexander, who runs the YouTube channel The Shiplife, said he heard other passengers say a person had fallen from a balcony, a situation confirmed by the cruise ship’s captain around 8 a.m.

The YouTuber also said that the passengers on board were shocked by the incident and that some passengers chose to disembark in Miami instead of continuing on the ship’s tour.
