The team explained that Rivas, who died at the age of 66, died naturally at his residence in the United States. The news was previously revealed by his relatives, who expressed the sadness that this loss represents.

“We deeply regret the sensitive death of Samuel ‘Sammy’ Rivas, a brilliant player for Guadalajara in the 1980s. We will always remember him with great affection. Our prayers are with his family and friends,” Chivas de Guadalajara said on his Twitter account.

The TUDN portal detailed that Samuel Rivas died after suffering a complication after a gallbladder operation.

During his playing career, Rivas was part of the historic trident made up of Snoopy Pérez and Eduardo ‘Yayo’ de la Torre.

The former player is remembered in the hearts of the rojiblancos for scoring the goal that sparked an important fight in the Clásico Nacional against the Águilas of Club América in the second leg of the semifinals of the 1982-1983 Liga MX season.
