The president of UEFA, the Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin, considers that the situation of FC Barcelona is “exceptionally serious” due to the “Negreira case” of possible corruption, and that it has not prescribed for UEFA, according to an interview with a newspaper. of his country.
“Judging from what I am informed, the situation is exceptionally serious. So serious that it seems to me that it is one of the most serious cases in football since I dealt with it,” Ceferin told Slovenian sports Ekipa.
The Slovenian, who hopes to be re-elected next week in Lisbon for another four-year term at the helm of UEFA, did not want to go into details of the case, especially since such issues, he said, are dealt with by an independent disciplinary commission.
However, he stressed that, although the case is prescribed as far as the Spanish League is concerned, proceedings are underway at the level of the Spanish civil prosecutor’s office.
“And the same goes for UEFA, since in our organization nothing has prescribed,” warned Ceferin, who did not want to answer the question of whether Barcelona could suffer competitive consequences at the UEFA level.
“I cannot and do not want to comment on that,” he said.
