The Cruz Azul coach, Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti, described the Liga MX where he works leading Cruz Azúl as an “amateur league” due to the yellow card policy in which a player will only be suspended for one match after accumulating two cardboards.
At a press conference, the strategist with the most titles in Mexico (7) called on the federation to take action on the matter and reduce yellow cards to prevent it from becoming “tricky” football.
“I think there are too many cards. That is why Mexican soccer is cunning and ends up being classified as an amateur for having five cards. Too bad the federation does not take action on the matter. Five cards for football that is considered top-level is a shame,” lamented the winningest strategist in the country’s league with seven league titles at a press conference.
He also stated that the fact that so many reprimands are allowed without punishment for soccer players causes several interruptions in the matches.
“This is not a thing for the teams, but for the federation, which loves to fill the ‘little pig’ (with what is charged for each yellow card received),” added the 69-year-old manager.
The former Mexico coach commented that if the managers want to improve to avoid a repetition of El Tri’s elimination in a group stage in a World Cup, as happened in Qatar 2022, they must start by ending the permissiveness of yellow cards.
Regarding the blow that the referee Fernando Hernández gave Argentine Lucas Romero in the León game against América, Ferretti said that he does not believe it was intentional and is part of the constant claims that occur in the games.
“I don’t think it was on purpose. Nowadays the referees receive graceful claims and this causes some irritation because you turn to the bench and even the teams claim fouls in their favor. It is an unpleasant situation, it broke out and only the two involved can say what happened, ”he sentenced.
Cruz Azul occupies the eighth position of the Clausura 2023 tournament and is close to scoring for the playoffs, in which at the end of the regular phase the last four places to the quarterfinals will be disputed.
