This Monday uncertainty remains over the authority of the city of Bakhmut, in Donestk in eastern Ukraine, where the strongest clashes in the Russian offensive in 2023 have been maintained for several months. According to the head of the group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin the city was taken by his troops, while Kiev dismisses this claim by Vladimir Putin’s man.
Given this, the commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said on Monday that the invading troops are weakening on the Eastern front, so the Russians would be “trying to cover up their failures” with lies about the capture of this Ukrainian city. . “The truth is that the successful work of the Ukrainian Armed Forces refutes all the efforts of the Russians,” he added.
Even so, Prigozhin senses that Wagner’s commanders are about to raise both the Russian flag and the banner of their military organization at the administrative building. On the war’s anniversary week, the Russian chief blamed “the war bureaucracy” for delays in taking Bakhmut, promising the Kremlin it would capture the city by mid-April, as a deadline.
Last week, the leader imposed by the Russian government in Ukrainian Donestsk, Denis Pushilin, stated that Russian troops are close to creating a siege of the city of Bakhmut. According to his version, events in the place are unfolding quite quickly after months of bloody fighting against the Kiev Army, which has held the position for months.
The Ukrainians only mentioned that week that the intensity of the fighting on the Bakhmut front varies greatly every day, yet another factor can interfere with the fighting is weather conditions, according to Ukrainian Colonel Roman Kostenko.
For his part, the Ukrainian president, Volodímir Zelenski, affirmed that all the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine will be liberated as soon as the counteroffensive of his Army begins. “I cannot say when we will be ready for very concrete things (…) Although we are preparing to be strong in battle and vacate our land,” said the president of Ukraine.
