forbes-millionaires-are-“poorer”-than-a-year-ago,-reveals-the-2023-ranking

Forbes published its famous list of millionaires for 2023, which this time is headed by the French Bernardo Arnault and his family with a fortune of $211,000 million dollars.

Forbes highlights that in 2023, half of the millionaires are poorer than a year ago, as falling stocks, emerging unicorns and rising interest rates meant a negative year for the world’s richest people.

“Globally, we count 2,640 ten-figure fortunes, up from 2,668 last year. In total, the planet’s billionaires are now worth $12.2 trillion, a drop of $500 billion from $12.7 trillion in March 2022,” the report says.

According to Forbes, nearly half the billionaires list is poorer than a year ago, including Elon Musk, who fell from the lead to No. 2 after his pricey acquisition of Twitter helped sink Tesla shares.

Taking his place today is Bernard Arnault, the head of luxury goods giant LVMH, marking the first time a citizen of France has led the ranking.

The United States has the most billionaires, with 735 list members worth a collective $4.5 trillion; while China remains in second place, with 562 billionaires worth $2 trillion; and India is third with 169 billionaires worth $675 billion.
