Meryl Streep, the 73-year-old American actress, was recognized today with the Princess of Asturias Award for Arts for her five-decade career both in theater and on screen. The interpreter thus adds this recognition to those already obtained throughout her career: three Oscars, several Emmy, SAG, Bafta, a Donostia from the San Sebastián Festival and Cannes, as well as Tony and Grammy nominations. .
The Arts award of the Princess of Asturias Awards is granted to “The work of creating, cultivating and perfecting cinematography, theatre, dance, music, photography, painting, sculpture, architecture and other artistic manifestations ”.
Each recognition is endowed with a sculpture by Joan Miró, a diploma, a badge and $55,000 dollars.
“I am very honored to receive this prestigious award from one of the most talented countries and cultures in the world. My heartfelt thanks to Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses and I am looking forward to meeting them in October and spending some time in their beautiful country,” Streep said.
The Prize for the Arts is one of the eight awarded annually by the Princess of Asturias Foundation; The winners of the other categories, including Communication, Science or Sports, will be announced in the coming days. The delivery ceremony will be held in October in Oviedo, a city in northern Spain.
