The Greek player of the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo, starred in a tense moment after exploding against a journalist at the press conference after his team’s elimination against the Miami Heat in the first round of the NBA playoffs , a series that ended 4-1.
After losing to the Heat by a tight score of 126-128, Antetokounmpo led the Bucks and appeared at the post-game press conference, in which one of the journalists present asked him if he considered a “failure.” having been eliminated, to which the player responded with a long speech in which he assured that the championship cannot always be won.
“You asked me that question last year. Do you get a promotion every year or a new job? No, right? So every year you work is a failure? No. Every year you work to achieve something, a goal, a promotion, you take care of your family, give them a house, take care of your parents… It is not a failure, they are steps towards success”, expressed the Greek.
In this sense, Antetokounmpo took the career of Michael Jordan, considered by many the best player in NBA history and the most winning, as a comparison, and recalled that he could not be champion in all the years he played.
“Michael Jordan played 15 years (in the NBA) and won six championships. The other nine were a flop? Is that what you’re telling me? (…) You are asking me the wrong question. There is no failure in sport, there are good days and bad days. There are days when you succeed and others when you don’t, some days it’s your turn and others you don’t”, he pointed out.
“That’s what sport is about, you don’t always win (…) And this year another will win, it’s as simple as that. We’ll see next year, we’ll try to be better and build good habits, we’ll try to play better and not have a 10-day streak of more basketball, and hopefully we’ll win the championship,” said the MVP candidate for the season.
