Lamar Jackson, new quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens, surpassed Jalen Hurts, quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles, on Thursday as the highest paid player in NFL history with the contract he signed for $260 million dollars for the next five years.
Jackson, who is 26 years old, will earn $52 million per year with the Ravens, surpassing Hurts, who on April 17 reached an agreement with the Eagles to earn $255 million over the next five years, which averages $51 million annually.
“We have agreed to a five-year contract extension with quarterback Lamar Jackson,” was the announcement made by the Ravens through their social networks.
On the list of the players who earn the most in the NFL after Jackson, with $52 million and Hurts, with $51 million, are Aaron Rodgers, new quarterback for the New York Jets, who receives $50.3 million; Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos with $49 million.
Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals receives $46.1 million. Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, $46 million; Patrick Mahomes, Most Valuable Player of the 2023 season and of Super Bowl LVII that he won with the Chiefs, $45 million; followed by Josh Allen of the Bills, with $43 million; and the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, the Rams’ Matthew Stafford and the Giants’ Daniel Jones, with $40 million each.
Lamar Jackson came to the NFL selected in the first round of the 2018 Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He started half of his rookie season games.
In 2019 he exploded, leading the league with 36 touchdown passes and rushing for 1,206 yards and seven rushing touchdowns, numbers that earned him the MVP designation of the season.
Through 70 games, Lamar Jackson boasts 64 percent of his completions; he has 12,209 yards, 101 touchdowns and 38 interceptions. On the ground he adds 4,437 yards with 24 ‘touchdowns’; Plus, he’s twice passed 1,000 yards per carry.
