Shakira will return to Barcelona on November 20, the date on which the trial will begin in which the Colombian will respond to her accusations after defrauding 14.5 million euros. A court in the Spanish city of Barcelona confirmed that this trial will have twelve sessions between that month and the next with some two hundred witnesses, according to legal sources reported this Thursday.

The efe news agency reported that the trial could be shortened if Shakira reaches some kind of agreement with the prosecution, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office, to accept a sentence reduction in exchange for acknowledging the fraud. The prosecution requests eight years and two months in prison and a fine of 23.8 million euros for the interpreter of “Te Felicito”.

There will be twelve sessions for the number of witnesses that have been presented by each of the parties. Efe reported that the judge has asked the parties if it would be possible to reduce the number of witnesses, which the prosecution and defense are willing to study in order to expedite the trial.

What is known about Shakira’s return to Barcelona

Shakira no longer resides in Barcelona. The Colombian singer has a new home in Miami. Her separation with Gerard Piqué, after his infidelity with Clara Chía Martí, led to the departure of the singer from Spain. However, thanks to this trial, Shakira will have to return to the Catalan city.

It is said, on the other hand, that the lawyers are looking at the possibility that Shakira attends Barcelona only in the session in which her statement is scheduled and in the last day, in which the defendant has the right to pronounce a final argument.

Shakira has been pointed out by the Spanish prosecutor for crimes against the Treasury for an alleged fraud for 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014. It is said that the singer pretended that she did not reside in Spain. Efe Shakira’s defense alleges that she did not establish her residence in Spain until 2014 and emphasizes that since 2011 the singer has paid more than 104 million euros in taxes in different countries.
