As the entertainment season kicks off with proms, weddings and summer parties, there seems to be a new culture around promoting responsible drinking and being a more creative and inclusive host by providing options for those who choose not to drink.
According to Diageo’s New Responsible Drinking Campaign, a useful tip for celebrating in moderation is to replace cocktails with non-alcoholic alternatives, or simply reduce the amount of some ingredients to achieve a low-alcohol version of a traditional cocktail.
Also, always offer water or soft drinks to help your guests space out their drinks and hydrate, as well as several food options. It’s a great way to show hospitality and help slow the absorption of alcohol in the body.
As the host, you can organize activities that don’t focus on alcohol consumption, such as a karaoke night or board games. You can also challenge your guests to take the DRINKiQ quiz to see who can debunk the most myths about the effects of alcohol on the body.
If you want to learn more about cocktail making, Diageo has created a new pamphlet called “Serve & Savor” offering a selection of classic, low-alcohol and non-alcoholic versions of recipes. The book includes the basics on how to make drinks and a practical guide to excel as a host.
