Two US Army helicopters crashed in Alaska on Thursday while returning from a training flight, military officials announced.
AH-64 Apache helicopters from the 1st Attack Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, crashed near Healy, Alaska, the 11th Airborne Division said in a statement posted on Twitter.
For his part, John Pennell, spokesman for the division, told NBC News that there were two people aboard each of the aircraft, which were based at Fort Wainwright.
However, in an update, the AP information agency reported that a third person died on the way to a hospital in Fairbanks; In addition, a fourth soldier was being treated at a hospital for injuries, according to a statement cited by the agency.
Following this information, authorities said the accident was under investigation and more details would be released when available, such as the total-actual number of people involved.
First responders are at the crash site located in the Denali district, about 100 miles southwest of Fairbanks, Alaska.
The accident is the latest in a series of recent accidents involving US military helicopters.
In March, nine soldiers were killed in Kentucky when two Army Black Hawk helicopters collided during a training exercise held at night.
Five service members were in one helicopter while four were crewing the second in the crash near the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
