An Illinois couple finds 63-year-old McDonald’s French fries on the bathroom wall of their home while renovating.
In some sort of time capsule, Rob Jones and his wife found 2 hamburger wrappers and a portion of preserved fries inside the wall where the original toilet paper holder was located.
“It was actually a bit difficult to remove. I had to get out some chisels and pliers, really pull on it because it was stuck like old plaster,” Rob told Today.
Rob and his wife bought their Crystal Lake home in 2015. He said when removing some shutters he had to pull them “because it was stuck like old plaster.”
Only after observing the hidden wrappers on the wall did they fear that it was an unsolved case from years ago in the house; however, peace of mind returned after opening the packaging and discovering the old McDonald’s order.
Both were surprised by the still crispy and golden state of the product. How do they keep so well? Grace said, while Rob added “we’re assuming whoever was building the house probably went there for lunch, and either fell in there or they did it on purpose.”
“There was no smell and surprisingly no trace of mice,” Rob shared, saying it was such a rare find that it was “worth sharing.”
McDonald’s bag featured the drawing of its first mascot, Speedee, with designs from 1955 to 1961 signs reading “I’m Faster” and “Custom Burgers.”
The couple discovered that one of the McDonald’s in the area was built on their street in 1959, the same year their house was built.
They say that remembering is living, and for Grace the grand opening of the first fast food restaurant in Des Plaines is gratifying, she assures that her mother was present at said event “she has been so excited because it is bringing her back to when she was a child there ”, he pointed out to Today.
The couple are considering selling their 63-year-old find “we would be happy to sell it”, otherwise they could keep it.
Netizens joked about it, writing “Are you going to finish those?”
“Dude, sell them to pay for the renovation”, the “forbidden fries”.
