The Santander League seems to have defined the champion with seven days to go, with FC Barcelona as the leader with an advantage of 11 points over its closest rival, Real Madrid. But the other side of the coin of the Spanish tournament for which there is still a lot of action is the relegation.
Three flagship teams of the tournament such as Getafe, Valencia and Espanyol, make up the red list in which during the last days they have rotated. Of course, the last place has been occupied all season by an Elche who just got their first victory on matchday 20.
Getafe has barely achieved 7 victories so far this season and the outcome could be none other than relegation, something that has only happened once (in the 2016/17 season) since it managed to climb to the first division in the season 2002/05.
Meanwhile, six-time La Liga winner Valencia CF have only been relegated once and date back to 1985/86. The lesson learned since then could end this season.
Finally, RCD Espanyol is the team that has the closest memory in the second division, since in the 2020/21 season it was in that category. The last time Los Periquitos had resigned was in 1993/94.
The truth is that the fight for salvation in La Liga is burning and teams like Cádiz, Almería and Valladolid are also in battle.
This is how the last 10 positions of La Liga Santander go
- 11th Seville – 41 pts
- 12th RCD Mallorca – 40 pts
- 13th Celta de Vigo – 39 pts
- 14th Valladolid – 35 pts

- 16th Valencia – 33 pts
- 17th Cádiz – 32 pts
- 18th Getafe – 31 pts
