Last Wednesday Miguel Cabrera played his last game of the regular season at American Family Field, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Venezuelan was honored for his 20-year career in the Major Leagues, which ends at the end of this season.
The management of the Wisconsin team presented Miggy with a check for $5 million dollars destined to his foundation The Miggy Foundation, which is in charge of helping young athletes fulfill their dreams.
The check was delivered by Brewers vice president Eduardo Brizeula and team coach Néstor Corredor. In addition to his Venezuelan compatriot Wiliam Contreras and the Dominican Willy Adames.
In addition to the check for his foundation, Cabrera had the honor of wearing the classic cheesehead or “cheese hat”, which is already a tradition for players and fans of the Milwaukee team.
Cabrera is playing his 21st season in the Major Leagues and at the end of it he will retire from baseball, which is why he is being honored in every stadium he goes to this year.
The 40-year-old veteran’s lifetime numbers will very likely secure him a spot in baseball’s Hall of Fame. A Triple Crown in 2012, a lifetime average of .308, in addition to 507 home runs, 3,097 hits and 1,850 RBIs guarantee him to enter the immortality of this sport.
