This Friday the New York Yankees visited the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in a match that they ended up losing with a 5-2 score and that their captain Aaron Judge missed due to a hip injury due to a slide in a previous game.
For the locals the starter was the veteran Jacob deGrom, although he had to retire in the third episode due to discomfort, while for the Bronx Clarke Schmidt went up to the mound.
The Texan ninth went ahead just in the second inning, Jonah Heim started the offense with a hit that was followed by a double by Robbie Grossman. A shot for first by Ezequiel Durán brought the first stripe for the locals and with Grossman in second Marcus Semien hit a double to bring the second race.
DeGrom pulled out his third inning of a lifetime on 1, 2 and 3. While Texas extended their lead with another two runs in the bottom half. Adolis García started with a single and Jonah Heim himself would once again be the protagonist connecting a double to bring the third. Grossman’s huge home run to right field put the score five runs behind.
Just in the fifth episode came the first race for the New Yorkers. A double by Oswaldo Cabrera and a hit by Kyle Higashioka brought the first. In the sixth came another on Willie Calhoun’s sacrifice fly that drove in Anthony Rizzo from third base.
The Rangers’ relief team of Jonathan Hernandez and Will Smith finished the job by pitching the Yankees’ seventh, eighth and ninth innings to clinch the win.
Texas continues to hold the lead in the American League West Division, while the Yankees have yet to enter a winning streak and their record of 15 wins and 12 losses dropped to fourth place in the east of the division.
