The identities of the five Honduran victims of the shooting in San Jacinto County, Texas, were released this afternoon by authorities as the intensive search for the suspect continues.
According to the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, the victims are Sonia Guzmán, 25; Diana Velasquez Alvarado, 21; Obsulia Molina Rivera, 31; José Jonathan Cáceres, 18, and Daniel Enrique Lazo, 8 years old.
According to San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers, when officers arrived at the home they found the four adults dead, while the boy was airlifted to the hospital, where he ended up dying.
According to the police report, the agents saw how two of the deceased were in the bedroom of the house where they died and their bodies were on top of two of the surviving children, in a possible attempt to protect them from the shots.
The suspect in the shooting was identified as Francisco Oropeza, 38, a Mexican national, who is a fugitive from justice and “could be anywhere,” according to Capers.
The sheriff pointed out that the search perimeter went from about 12 or 15 square kilometers to 25 or 50 kilometers, reported the EFE agency.
Meanwhile, the agent in charge of the FBI office in Houston, James Smith, classified Oropeza as “armed and dangerous,” and took advantage of calling the neighbors to take precautions, and notify the authorities if they see him.
Oropeza, who was known in the neighborhood for shooting in the garden of his house with his AR-15 rifle, was interrupted in one of his rounds by one of his neighbors, who asked him to stop shooting because it was too late and he was a baby. tried to sleep.
In reaction to this, the suspect broke into his neighbors’ home and shot them in the neck and head “as if it were an execution,” according to Capers’ description.
Meanwhile, authorities have set a $5 million bond in case Oropeza is captured.
