A University of Georgia student identified as Liza Burke died after suffering a brain hemorrhage after being hospitalized last month during a vacation trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, her family said.
“Liza took her last breath, sighed, and moved on to the next realm… after Hospice was called, we dressed Liza in colorful pajamas, given to her by her boyfriend’s mom and Jack’s girlfriend Elli, braided her hair. “Liza has now been reunited with her sister, and they are making up for lost time,” the family said, referring to her sister Edie, who died of a rare genetic disorder in 2008.
The death of 21-year-old Burke occurred after the young woman developed a headache while having breakfast during a vacation with friends on March 10, and hours later her friends called a doctor informing that they could not wake her from her bed. nap, according to her friend Jennifer Ritter on her GoFundMe page.
“She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) that caused bleeding in her brain,” Burke’s friend wrote in an update days later, adding that she was on “life support.”
After being flown from Mexico to Jacksonville, Florida, for further treatment, the family said they decided to stop the radiation after Burke failed to respond to treatment after six weeks, saying they wanted to continue sending Liza “as only she deserves.” .
