The suspect in the killing of five people in a Texas shooting allegedly was drunk at the time of the shooting.
The massacre was reported Friday at a home in Cleveland.
The ABC network report this Saturday indicates that officers arrived at the scene after receiving a harassment call at around 11:30 p.m.
Investigators told the network that the gunman fired an AR-15 from his patio while he was under the influence of alcohol.
The man was allegedly confronted by neighbors who asked him to stop shooting because it was late and a baby was trying to sleep. At that time, he attacked the neighbors.
“What I know is that the victims, they went up to the gate and said, ‘hey, can you stop shooting? We have a little baby who is trying to sleep,” San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said. “And he had been drinking and told them, ‘I do whatever I want in my front yard,’” the source added.
When agents went to the scene, they discovered several people with gunshot wounds and blood. Four were pronounced dead at the scene and the fifth at the hospital.
It is not clear if the neighbors had previously alerted the authorities of the situation due to the danger posed by a person shooting from a home patio.
Capers explained that there were 10 people inside the suspect’s house, all from Honduras. Two females lay on top of a pile of children in an apparent attempt to protect them from the bullets.
The names of the alleged gunman and the victims have not been released.
The ages of the victims fluctuate between 8 and 40 years.
Preliminary information indicates that the shooter is a 39-year-old Mexican, 5’8″; with a goatee and black hair. The last time he was seen he was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.
