“Things went well for us,” said ‘Checo’, born 33 years ago in Guadalajara (Jalisco), who signed his 29th podium in Formula One and is second in the World Cup, with 87 points, only six less than his teammate. , the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), second this Sunday, in what was Red Bull’s third ‘double’ so far this season.

“We stayed on the DRS train; and we had better degradation in the first round, in which things were already looking good. Then the ‘safety car’ came out and it was another race, with hard tires”, commented the brave driver from Guadalajara, who completed a dream weekend, in which he also won, on Saturday, in this circuit, the first of six sprint races of the season.

“It has been very tight between the two of us”, pointed out ‘Checo’, in reference to his Dutch teammate.

“We both touched the wall. He was pushing me and I was pushing him. And I had some luck, obviously, with the moment the safety car came on track,” added the Red Bull Mexican, after another sensational performance that confirms he can aspire to become world champion.

“It’s been an amazing weekend; I’m super happy and I can’t say anything else about the team; It’s been a tremendous day for us and I’m so proud of everyone. I want to give a special thanks to Thibaut, one of my mechanics who is home for personal reasons; but he that he continues to be a very important part of the team ”, commented the ‘crack’ from Jalisco.

“The team likes to call me ‘the king of the streets’, I’m very happy for all of them”, declared ‘Checo’, referring to the fact that five of his six Formula One victories came on urban circuits.

“They’ve been tremendous all weekend, from the sprint on Saturday to how we ran the race today; It has been perfect,” he noted.

“I think that today we were the fastest car on the track and that, regardless of the safety car’s entry, we would have won the race in any case”, added ‘Checo’.

“I am definitely in the fight for the title; not only for Baku. I think I can be good anywhere this season and right now I’m already thinking about Miami”, commented the winner of the race in reference to the next test, in the aforementioned town in Florida (USA), where he will have the support of numerous compatriots.

“Many races are coming up now and we have to make sure that we are on it”, stated ‘Checo’ after winning in Azerbaijan.
