A man in the city of Flowery Branch, located in Georgia’s Hall County, was taken into custody by law enforcement officials and now faces more than 1,200 counts of child sexual exploitation.
The man was identified as Joshua Rivers, who was wanted by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, according to information from WSB-TV.
During a police operation carried out last Wednesday, officials from the Sheriff’s office seized at least 15 different electronic devices, where they found hundreds of images of child pornography.
According to information from WSB-TV, the detainee, Joshua Rivers, obtained the images over a period of approximately 8 months, beginning in September 2022.
Police officials began the investigation a little over two weeks ago, when they received information from the National Center for Missing and Abused Children.
Rivers was arrested after being taken to the Sheriff’s Office, and is currently being held at the Hall County Jail without bail. This was reported by WSB-TV.
In the state of Georgia, possession of child pornography is prosecuted under the charge of sexual exploitation of minors. This means that it is illegal for anyone to possess or control material that depicts a minor engaging in sexual activity.
This charge, according to various sources, can carry between 5 and 20 years in prison, as well as fines of up to $100,000.
If you think there are pedophiles or sex criminals in your community, you can check the Official Registry of Sex Offenders in your state of residence, as each entity must maintain public records regarding sex criminals.
At the federal level, citizens have the Dru Sjodin Official Sex Offender Portal, run in conjunction with the US Department of Justice, where they can search for information about sex offenders in all 50 US states by name. This portal also gives people access to search for sex criminals in cities, towns and specific locations.
