roof-collapse-on-home-off-ohio-state-university-campus-leaves-14-injured

At least 14 people were injured after the roof of an off-campus home near Ohio State University in the city of Columbus collapsed Saturday night, authorities said.

The victims were taken to several nearby hospitals, presenting injuries that have not been specified, but are in stable condition, the Columbus Fire Department told the New York Post.

First responders were called to a location a few blocks from the university campus around 7:40 p.m. due to reports of a roof collapsing during a party.

It was also reported that some victims were trapped under the rubble, but were released after the collapse, the department added.

According to the authorities’ report, there were between 14 and 45 people on top of the roof at the time of the collapse. It was not clear how many of the injured attended Ohio State University, WHIO7 said. Images showed the house intact, while the porch roof was in ruins. It is unknown if the house had any structural problems, which caused it to collapse, according to the department.

Meanwhile, Ohio State University issued a statement regretting the event, indicating that they are monitoring the situation.

“We are closely monitoring this dire situation and assisting first responders in any way possible. Our thoughts are with those present and their friends and family,” the university said in statements collected by the New York Post.
