This Saturday the district attorney for the district of awakening, Darcel Clark, condemned that The Bronx has the lowest conviction and dismissal rates in almost all major crimes in New York. The official also rejected more attempted murders and sexual assaults in the past five years than all other city prosecutors combined.

According to a story published by the New York Post, Clark has refused to prosecute at least 101 arrests for attempted murder of varying degrees since 2018, while the other four district attorneys have declined to make a total of 80 arrests for attempted murder. of homicide between them

The Bronx district attorney’s office also rejected 172 rape arrests and 51 sexual assault of varying degrees during that time period, more than the 166 alleged rapes and equal to the 51 reduced assault arrests. According to a report from Clark’s office, guilty verdicts have been obtained in only 60% of murder arrests made by law enforcement, compared with 62% in Brooklyn, 66% in Queens and Staten Island and the 76% in Manhattan.

So in the Bronx, he was only able to win convictions in the 39% of attempted murder arrests since 2018 that have closed so far, compared to 54% in Brooklyn, 61% in Manhattan and Queens, and the 65% in Staten Island. In addition, Clark’s office believes his conviction rate is much higher than state data indicates: 90% for first-degree murder and 73% for second-degree murder.

Insecurity in New York

Since the beginning of 2023, the city authorities altered that the figures for violence, crime and sexual abuse had increased significantly. In January alone, serious crimes increased 4.1% with 10,067 reports compared to the same period last year, when 9,672 of the seven major crimes were reported, according to New York Police Department (NYPD) statistics.

Therefore, in the first days of April, a recent survey by the Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) stated that at least 30% of New Yorkers want to live elsewhere, due to several factors where insecurity plays a role. 40% of those surveyed by SCRI said New York is not a good place to raise children, including a whopping 61% of black respondents.

This has led to a stagnation of New York’s population over the past decade, and this has real consequences. The state is likely to lose at least one and possibly two congressional seats and political power, after the next official decennial census count (2020), due to its inability to grow compared to other states.
