Two teenagers were killed and four others seriously injured after a shooting broke out at a house party in Mississippi early Sunday morning.
The victims, ages 16 and 18, whose identities have not been released at this time, died of their injuries after being transported to the University Medical Center of New Orleans, Bay St. Louis Police Chief Toby said. Schwartz, in a press release.
Authorities found half a dozen people between the ages of 15 and 18 with gunshot wounds after arriving at the party site around 12:30 a.m.
For his part, one of the injured is in critical condition, while three others are in serious condition, Schwartz added.
Four of the victims attended Hancock High School, and two were Bay High students, according to the Sun Herald.
Although the number of shots fired during the incident has not been determined, according to videos that have circulated on social networks reviewed by the local newspaper Sun Heald, they recorded that there were multiple shots.
So far, police have arrested a subject identified as Cameron Brand, 16, from Pass Christian. He was charged with murder and aggravated assault in the bloodletting, but as of Sunday morning his charges were upgraded to manslaughter, according to Bay St. Louis police.
Authorities have speculated that he was the only shooter on the scene, though the motive for the shooting was not immediately disclosed.
Judge Stephen Maggio ordered Brand held without bail after the teens died, with bail originally set at $3,000.
