Two women residents of the city of Florence, located in the state of South Carolina, were accused by the authorities of the death of a two-year-old baby.
The women were identified as María Osterhout, 48, and Angel Wallace, 31, according to information from the ABC 4 News portal.
The authorities point out that both Osterhout and Wallace were in charge of the minor between June 10, 2019 and April 24, 2022, when the crime was committed.
The accusation was ruled by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (or, as it is usually known, SLED, for its acronym in English).
Osterhout was charged with child abuse homicide, and also received three counts of inappropriate or illegal conduct toward a minor.
On the other hand, Angel Wallace received a charge of one count of murder for child abuse and five counts of inappropriate or illegal conduct towards a minor.
According to the ABC 4 News report, both women put the two-year-old baby at “unreasonable risk of being physically or mentally affected.”
The South Carolina authorities reported that the cause of death of the minor was “committing child abuse and neglect under circumstances that manifested an extreme indifference to human life.”
Both Maria Osterhout and Angel Wallace are being held at the Florence County Detention Center.
According to the Williams And Walsh Law lawyer portal, all persons accused of child abuse homicide charges can face sentences of life imprisonment or at least 20 years in prison, if they plead guilty. .
