A 13-year-old boy in the state of Michigan became a hero recently when he took control of a school bus that went out of control because the bus driver had a medical emergency and was unable to continue driving the vehicle.
The incident occurred last Wednesday, when the school bus driver, coming from a school in the city of Warren (Michigan) began to shake and lost consciousness.
At that moment, a 13-year-old boy, identified as Dillon Reeves, noticed what was happening and came to the front of the bus to stop it.
On the bus were 66 other students. Everyone panicked and started screaming as Dillon tried to stop the vehicle.
After the bus stopped, Dillon asked his teammates to call 911.
Fortunately, there were no injuries during the incident. The bus driver was taken to a medical center.
On Thursday, April 27, Dillon received recognition from officials in his school district.
Robert Livernois, superintendent of the Warren Consolidated Schools, praised Dillon during a press conference, according to information from The Strait Times.
“He stood to attention, assessed the situation and saw that the driver had passed out. This was an act of extraordinary courage,” Livernois said.
After the incident, the young students transferred to another bus and returned to their homes, according to Livernois.
Dillan was described by his parents, identified as Ireta and Steve Reeves, as an introverted young man, and they expressed their pride to the press. “We are very proud, this has been very overwhelming for all of us,” Reeves said. This was reported by The Straits Times.
