Be careful how many returns you make to Costco. And it is that, if there are too many, they could revoke your membership indefinitely, since they could believe that you are taking advantage of their return policy.
“Costco reserves the right to deny membership to any applicant, and membership may be terminated at Costco’s discretion and without cause,” Costco says on its website.
It should be noted that Costco does not specify how many returns it would consider to be too many and would be grounds for canceling your membership. However, there are already many stories of customers who persistently returned things until Costco removed their membership.
For example, a former Costco customer told Business Insider that her membership was revoked because she tried to return a printer she bought eight years ago.
The Costco manager refused this customer a refund for the printer, not because many years had passed since the purchase, but because this particular woman had a long history of returning items.
After presenting her complaint to Costco’s senior vice president of Northeast US operations, the company sent the customer a letter informing her that her membership had been terminated, although she was given a refund for the printer.
The decision to consider returning items abusive is made on a case-by-case basis and is left to the discretion of Costco managers.
So keep in mind that some managers may be less forgiving than others if you plan to return multiple items for what they think is not a very reasonable reason.
