Two minors were rescued after being trapped for several hours inside a tunnel in New Jersey.
Firefighters were able to rescue the children after dragging a boat into the Edgewater Tunnel to locate and remove them.
“We went down there – lots of water, at least three feet, so myself and Lt. Jacobson put on water rescue suits,” Lt. Thomas Quinton, Jr. said.
Officials said the children were sitting on a pipe that runs the length of the tunnel to keep them out of the water. The young people revealed that they were waiting sitting for at least two hours.
Rescue teams put the children in a boat and moved them to a safe place. Firefighters believe the children entered the tunnel in Fairview when their Sunday drive in a heavy storm turned into a dangerous trap.
On the other hand, there was another rescue in Livingston, where two youngsters were riding bicycles along Canoe Brook when heavy rainfall turned a usually calm creek into raging waters.
The children were suddenly swept away by the updraft, however one of them was able to call his mother for help, ABC 7 NY reported.
When relief equipment arrived, the children were transported about 200 yards downriver. Fire officials revealed that one was able to get out of the water and the other hung from a fence.
The young people have been home since Sunday night, shocked but safe.
“We just saw some ambulances and fire trucks in the back of the masonry building across the street,” Ross Myers said.
