In an interview with the ‘ESPN’ chain, Silver recalled the conversation he had with Morant the first time he appeared in a video with a weapon and commented that they both talked about the consequences of those actions so I don’t expect something like that would happen again.
“The first time we talked directly about the consequences of his action, we focused on the misconduct and our conversation focused on the seriousness of that gesture,” he said from Chicago, where he is to celebrate the 2023 NBA Draft. .
“An eight-game ban was very serious and I thought he took it very seriously. We talked about that and what he could expect not only because of his career, but also about the risks of being able to kill someone with such behavior,” he added.
In March, the Grizzlies star appeared on video holding a gun while at a strip club. As punishment, the commissioner suspended him for eight games after meeting in person at the NBA offices in New York, but it seems the player hasn’t learned his lesson.
“He is a star, he has a lot of following. Millions, even tens of millions of kids see her doing what she was doing,” Adam Silver explained regarding Ja Morant’s penalty.
He also indicated that they will not rush to make a decision with what happened recently and assured that they will investigate. “I had the idea that the first sanction had been taken seriously. I was honestly in ‘shock’ when I saw the video. We’re investigating, trying to understand what happened. Let’s figure it out,” she said.
