The midfielder of the Mexican team, Andrés Guardado, announced this Tuesday his retirement from the national team after 16 years of action, in which he managed to participate in five editions of the FIFA World Cup.

Through a couple of emotional videos on the networks, Guardado explained that it was time to give way to young talent and for this reason he decided to put an end to his international career after 181 matches and 16 years of validity.

“Thank you for everything you have experienced in these 16 years, it is impossible to express in words how grateful and privileged I feel. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who accompanied me, I was lucky to share moments during this beautiful dream, ”Guardado wrote on his Twitter account.

In his farewell he also had words for his teammates and coaches who were accompanying him in the national team, as well as thanking the fans for having supported him throughout his career.

“All my teammates, the different coaching staff, all the staff who are a very important part of my day-to-day life and, of course, all the loyal fans who have accompanied me throughout all these years and now I am one of you, thank you,” he concluded. Saved.

The Real Betis midfielder participated in five World Cups and was on the verge of becoming the first player to play six World Cups, in a record that his teammate Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa will seek to pursue.

Guardado played a total of 181 games with El Tri, his first commitment being in 2005 and his last match in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, losing 2-0 against Argentina in the group stage and wearing the captain’s band.
