A fisherman came face to face with a shark while sailing in shallow water off the coast of Kualoa in Hawaii, and his camera caught the terrifying moment.

“It was unbelievably bad luck, but unbelievably good luck to capture it,” said Scott Haraguchi, who caught the shark encounter on camera, according to ABC affiliate WMTW.

His GoPro action camera was still recording after Haraguchi caught a fish, when he suddenly heard a “hissing sound that resembled a boat heading towards him with no motor.”

In the distance, Haraguchi saw something large and brown that looked like a turtle, but when it crashed into his kayak, he realized it was a tiger shark.

Despite the shark attack, the man continued to fish, but as soon as he watched the video, he realized how lucky he was not to have been injured in the attack.

It should be remembered that earlier this year, a shark attack left a diver decapitated in Mexico. Manuel López, 53, was diving for shellfish in Tobari Bay off the coast of Sonora when he was killed by a 19-foot great white shark.

Earlier this month, a 58-year-old surfer was also bitten on the leg by a tiger shark off Honolulu, sustaining serious injuries.

The fact that shark attacks are rare does not diminish the importance of taking precautionary measures to prevent them.
