quinceanero-stabbed-another-teenager-in-new-york-park

A fifteen-year-old was arrested yesterday and charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing another teenager in a Brooklyn (NYC) park earlier this month.

Police said the defendant, whose name was not released due to his age, repeatedly stabbed an 18-year-old man in the middle of a fight inside McLaughlin Park in the Vinegar Hill neighborhood shortly before 5 p.m. on May 3.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the torso and was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in stable condition. The 15-year-old, who was wearing a skeleton-print sweatshirt, ran outside after the bloody encounter but was caught on security cameras.

The reason for the brawl is not clear. The police handcuffed the minor yesterday at 10:30 am and charged him with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, reported New York Post.

All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Young people are increasingly protagonists in gun violence in New York as victims and perpetrators, particularly shootings and attacks with bladed weapons. On Monday, an 18-year-old teenager was shot dead as he fled from being punched and kicked in a gang beating on a street in the Bronx (NYC).

The pandemic, the anti-police climate and the penal reform have been identified as factors that have triggered crime in the city. In September an NYPD report found that recidivism among teens had risen sharply over the past five years and the number of gunmen and their underage victims had tripled.
