Ángel Florián, a 22-year-old who already faced an attempted murder charge in New Jersey, has now been charged with killing a Trinitarios gang member in Upper Manhattan, police said.

Florián had been arrested on May 9 in New Jersey for allegedly shooting a teenager and committing a robbery that occurred approximately two months after the shooting death of Alberto Martínez in Washington Heights (NYC).

Martinez, 27, who NYPD says was a member of the Trinitarios gang, was shot in the chest on W. 168th St. near Amsterdam Ave. on Oct. 3, 2019, he said. Daily News.

The gunman fled in a car driven by an accomplice, and later that month police released photos of both suspects. Martinez lived around the corner from where he was killed and had 15 arrests on his record, including for gang assault and weapons possession.

A Manhattan grand jury indicted Florián on murder, robbery, weapons possession and hindering prosecution charges in September 2022, but at the same time he was on trial for shooting an unidentified 18-year-old before an accomplice stabbed the victim, who miraculously survived.

Florián is the second suspect arrested in the murder of Martínez. Jerson Acosta Batista was arrested in New Jersey on October 12 and charged with the same charges as Florian.

Both Acosta Batista and Florián are New Jersey residents and had no criminal records in New York. It was not immediately clear which of them shot Martinez and who was the getaway driver.

All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
