Tigres de la UANL rose this Monday as the new champion of the MX League by winning the Clausura Tournament after beating Chivas de Guadalajara 2-3 to add the 8th title in its history in Mexican soccer.
The match, played at the Akron stadium where Chivas are home, saw how Rebaño Sagrado let the victory slip away in the second half through some Tigres who overcame an initial deficit of up to two goals to end up sentencing in time extra victory thanks to a header from Guido Pizarro.
The pressure exerted by the rojiblancos from the first minutes took effect early on when at minute 11 ‘Roberto “Piojo” Alvarado started from the right wing and after cutting inward he shot at the farthest post defended by Nahuel Guzmán to put up 1- 0 to your team.
The blow that Tigres suffered was immediate and after hitting once Chivas quickly looked for the second goal that they finally got through the always dangerous Víctor Guzmán.
In a corner kick during the offensive siege, the cross went straight to the penalty spot and Pocho hit the unmarked volley to make it 2-0 and increase his team’s lead.
From the second goal, Chivas dedicated himself to controlling the ball and managing the advantage in his own way, against some Tigres who did not stop looking for the match.
The second half seemed to follow the same script as the first half, but the response from Tigres de la UANL was immediate and came initially through their top star André Pierre Gignac.
The Frenchman exchanged a penalty sentenced 62 minutes into the game for a goal and just over 10 minutes later, Tigres sealed the 2-2 tie with a header from Francisco Sebastián Córdova.
With four goals in total in the initial 90 minutes, both Chivas and Tigres decided that the best definition would be in extra time.
But in extra time the visitor was more and it was enough for a new header, this time by Guido Pizarro at 108 minutes into extra time, to declare the victory for Tigres de la UANL.
