A little less than a week after being sanctioned again for the ‘Plusvalía case’, Juventus has decided not to appeal the ruling and will officially be left out of the next edition of the UEFA Champions League, as indicated by the team’s CEO, Francesco Bald, to ‘DAZN Italy’.
Calvo was disappointed by the 10-point reduction suffered by the ‘Vecchia Signora’ and argued that the decision is “unfair” since they were accused of something and sanctioned for something else. “We have been clear from the beginning, we believe that we have been unfairly punished. They told us that we violated one article and then they punished us for another,” he explained.
Juventus was sanctioned with the subtraction of 10 points in the current season of Serie A in Italy, which caused it to drop from second to seventh place in the table, this after being found guilty of having inflated the sale price of their players to receive higher income.
The Turin team had been punished a few months ago with the reduction of 15 points for this same case, however, the Guarantee College of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) reviewed the sentence and decided to temporarily lift the sanction due to lack of of consistency in the motivation of the sanction.
But a month later, the Federal Court of Appeals announced that the sanction would be applied this year although now it would be 10 points, a figure that, despite being less than the first, ended up damaging the aspirations of the ‘Bianconero’ team to participate in the next edition of the Champions League.
It should be noted that the prosecutor of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) Giuseppe Chiné, who has been in charge of this case since the beginning of 2022, had requested as punishment for ‘La Juve’, that 11 points be subtracted from Serie A .
However, the body, the second degree of Italian sports justice, with a totally different composition from the one that handed down the 15-point sentence in January, lowered the FIGC’s request by one point.
