At least two people died and another 13 were injured after a shooting occurred this Sunday near a bar located in the Río Piedras area, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The events took place in the vicinity of the Piel Kanela business, a restaurant that also functions as a store and nightlife venue, and where a birthday was supposedly being celebrated.
A call through the 911 emergency system informed the police this morning about shots being fired at the site, according to a statement from local authorities.
When police arrived on the scene, officers found the bullet-ridden body of a man, whose identity has not been released.
Meanwhile, the injured were transported to different hospitals and one of them, a 72-year-old man, died while receiving medical attention at the Río Piedras Medical Center, after being in serious condition.
The 72-year-old victim was identified as Luis Hernández Martínez, who received bullet wounds to the skull and side, reported Telemundo Puerto Rico.
Until now, the health condition of the rest of the victims and the reason for the shots are unknown, the EFE news agency said.
According to preliminary information, it is presumed that there was a hitman, since people aboard two cars opened fire with rifles inside the restaurant.
The investigation was led by the Homicide Division of the San Juan Investigation Corps, working together with the prosecutor on duty.
