A 3-month-old girl was discovered dead Sunday in a wooded area near a homeless shelter in the Bronx, police sources said.
The baby’s body was found by officers searching the area after the girl disappeared from the shelter, officials said.
Her body was found near West 161st Street and the Major Deegan Expressway Sunday night, police said.
Deputies were originally called to the shelter earlier the next day after a family member contacted the city’s Administration for Children’s Services concerned about the infant, authorities said.
The shelter is located on University Avenue and is classified as transitional housing.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death for the 3-month-old girl, the New York Post reported.
In addition, New York Police Department officers arrested a 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman for questioning, police and law enforcement sources said.
So far no charges have been filed in this case.
