During this Memorial Day —a commemorative date in which American soldiers who have died in their service to the country are remembered— former President Donald Trump congratulated the US military. who “gave the ultimate sacrifice” for his nation and called on his supporters to help him “stop the Marxists, communists and fascist ‘pigs’” in the nation.

Trump, through his social media platform called Truth Social, opined that the US “has never been in greater danger than it is right now.” This was reported by the news portal The Hill.

The former US president also took the opportunity to thank not only the fallen military, but those who “are stopping terrorist threats, misfits and lunatic thugs who are working fervently from within to destroy our once-great nation.”

In keeping with the Memorial Day commemoration, other Republican political leaders, who are also running for the US presidency in 2024, posted messages or stated opinions in interviews.

The Hill reviewed, for example, the statements of Governor Ron DeSantis, who announced his presidential aspiration last week, offered during an interview with “Fox & Friends.”

DeSantis declared that the United States was “a great country, built on great values,” but warned that the Constitution, as well as the Declaration of Independence, do not lead themselves, requiring people willing to “put on the uniform, risk their lives and give the last measure of devotion.”

Tim Scott, a Republican senator who recently announced his presidential candidacy, also stressed the importance of commemorating Memorial Day.

“Some 1.3 million Americans have lost their lives to serve a greater cause. Today, we must take pride in that sacrifice and live each day to thank the men and women we have not met. Our responsibility is to live as Americans because the price is too high for us not to live our lives to the fullest,” Scott said in a video posted on his Twitter account.

Nikki Haley, who is also a presidential candidate for the Republican Party primaries, opined, through her Twitter account, that “We should never take our rights and freedoms for granted.”

Haley assured that both privileges are “blessings” that are paid at a high price “by many brave men and women in our Army.”

“Let’s honor them today, and every day, with the greatest gift: teaching our children to love America,” he said.
