After her first professional loss to Britain’s Chantelle Cameron, Ireland’s Katie Taylor mocks those who speculate about her retirement from the ring and makes it clear that she wants a rematch with the fighter who holds four world light-welterweight titles.
Taylor’s attempt to become the undisputed world champion in two classes was thwarted by Cameron more than a week ago, outpointing the previously undefeated lightweight on her return to Dublin, Ireland. However, the unified lightweight champion told RTE that she “learned” from the Cameron fight and “definitely didn’t feel like myself there. I felt very, very tired right away. I’ll have to go back to the drawing board.”
On the speculation about his retirement, Taylor said: “I don’t even know what retirement means. I definitely don’t feel like it’s time to retire (…) It will happen some day in the future, but right now my sights are on securing a rematch with Chantelle. That’s the only fight that matters to me right now. I think we’re looking at a November date.”
“I’m definitely not going to end my career like this,” said the owner of the WBA title since 2017, the IBF since April 2018, the WBO since March 2019 and the WBC since June of that same year.
