aaron-hicks-became-a-division-rival-to-the-yankees-after-signing-a-major-league-contract-with-the-orioles

Former New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Hicks will return to the majors as the New York team’s division rival after signing a contract with the Baltimore Orioles, who have suffered a major outfield loss and have moved to cover it quickly.

Four days after being released by the Bronx Bombers, Hicks has gotten the opportunity he wanted to change the air and show that he can still perform at the highest level of baseball.

What the 31-year-old player perhaps did not expect is that this opportunity would be in the same division as his former team, with some Orioles who are experiencing a great season that places them in second place in the American League East with a record from 34-20.

Hicks will arrive in Baltimore to cover what is expected to be a short absence for fellow outfielder Cedric Mullins, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right groin strain suffered Monday in the first game of the series against the Texas Rangers.

The left-handed hitter has been consistent throughout his 11 major league seasons with the Minnesota Twins (3) and Yankees (8), posting a career batting average of .230 with 101 home runs and 356 RBIs. in 898 games.

It should be remembered that the Yankees were left owing just over $24 million to the outfielder, corresponding to the seven-year, $70 million contract he signed in 2019.

Aaron Hicks didn’t perform as expected by the New York team, which had hoped he would be one of their everyday outfielders like he was last year. In 2023 he’s posting a meager .188 batting average with one home run, five RBIs, one run and a .524 OPS in 28 games.
