Lynija Eason was arrested and charged in connection with the death of her 6-year-old daughter, Jalaeyah Eason, who was found beaten unconscious in her NYCHA apartment in the Bronx on Friday.
The 26-year-old suspected mother was charged with acting in a manner harmful to a minor, but could face other charges if the medical examiner determines her daughter’s death was a homicide.
At the moment the investigation continues into how the girl died. As the community installed a memorial to her inside the lobby of Forest Houses on East 165th Street in the Morrisania neighborhood, she noted CBS News.
Jalaeyah resided in that public housing building and from there her mother called 911 early Friday morning to report that her daughter was not responding. Paramedics took her to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Police also found an 8-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl in the apartment, who appeared to have signs of bruising and ligature marks indicating restraints. The boy told officers that his mother had hit him.
The mother was detained and her other two children are in the custody of the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
