If you dream of living near the beach, you don’t need to swim in money, because there are many cities in the United States where you could find a house near the sea without leaving your bank account bankrupt.

Realtor.com has compiled a list of cities in the United States where buyers can find affordable homes near water.

To rank the cities, Realtor.com used data on homes that sold in the past year and were located within a mile of a beach.

The cheapest homes were selected based on price per square foot, and locations with at least 50 properties were listed.

The 10 cheapest places in the US to buy a beach house:
. Gulfport, Mississippi
. Newport News, Virginia
. New London, Connecticut
. Grand Isle, Louisiana
. Corpus Christi, Texas
. Atlantic City, New Jersey
. Navarre, Fla.
. North Beach, Maryland.
. Crescent City, Calif.
. Shirley, New York

Gulfport, Mississippi is the cheapest city to buy a beach house. It sits halfway between Mississippi’s Louisiana and Alabama borders, and has 26 miles of beach on the Gulf of Mexico.

According to Realtor.com, the median sales price for a home located one mile from the beach is $224,900. Also, the average price per square foot in that same area is $144.

Newport News, Virginia, ranked second. This city is located at the southern tip of the Virginia peninsula, approximately 25 miles from Jamestown.

In Newport News, the median price for a home located one mile from the beach is $200,000, while the median price per square foot in that same area is $150.

Third on the list is New London, Connecticut. It has one of the best public beaches in the state, Ocean Beach Park, which is located on Long Island Sound.

The median price within a mile of a beach is $257,000 in New London, while the median price per square foot within a mile of a beach is $175.
