This Monday afternoon, at least nine people were injured during a confrontation between two groups of youths along a boardwalk in Hollywood, Florida. A spokesperson for the Hollywood Police Department explained that five adults and four children are hospitalized due to injuries caused by bullet impacts.
Despite the injuries resulting from the confrontation, the Director of Corporate Communications of the Memorial Healthcare System, Yanet Obarrio Sánchez, told the media that all the injured are stable and recovering. Local authorities were able to arrest a suspect, although another of those possibly involved in this shooting is on the run.
Hollywood Police Department spokeswoman Deanna Bettinesch described the wanted person as a black man with dreadlocks wearing a short-sleeved black shirt and camouflage shorts. The version of the police authorities is that they responded to a call around seven at night, due to several people injured near Johnson Street and North Broadwalk, a pedestrian walkway that is quite crowded in the city for its restaurants and shops.
Several security cameras and witnesses were able to verify that the sound of the bullet shots was the cause of the people fleeing the place and towards the beach. In addition, the witnesses said that there was a group of young people fighting on the promenade and suddenly one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire, causing people to run in all directions.
The Hollywood Police concluded their report that the youngest injured is a one-year-old boy, who is in stable condition at a pediatric hospital in the area, and the oldest is 65 years old, but both are stable. “The preliminary investigation reveals that there was an altercation between two groups that resulted in shooting,” Bettineschi added to the media.
