The United States team announced strategist BJ Callaghan as the new interim technical director of the USMNT, ahead of the Concacaf Nations League.
The announcement was made this Tuesday by the sports director of US Soccer, Matt Crocker, prior to the game in which the United States will face Mexico in the semifinals of the Concacaf Nations League.
Despite the appointment, the process to select the new coach of the United States National Team is still ongoing.
“BJ has been an integral part of the USMNT staff for the past four years as this young team has grown and developed. Working alongside Anthony Hudson these past few months. We are confident that he is prepared and ready to lead this group in the summer tournaments”, said Matt Crocker.
“We are grateful to Anthony for the tremendous job he did and we wish him success in the future,” added the US Soccer sporting director.
It’s worth noting that Collaghan started out as a strategy analyst before being promoted to assistant coach for the national team just as they won the Gold Cup and the Nations League in 2021.
He is currently listed as the oldest member of the USMT technical staff, according to the TUDN media outlet.
“I understand the responsibility of the job and am honored to have the opportunity to build on the progress this group has made over the past four years,” Callaghan said.
“Together, we have built a strong culture and a great understanding of how we want to play, and we look forward to continuing to build on that progress. Our goal is clear: defend our two Concacaf titles,” added the coach.
