Employees at a Connecticut bakery were shocked when a hungry bear broke into the business’s garage and made off with nearly 60 cupcakes.
The Taste by Spellbound business in Avon posted a video on Facebook showing the bear entering an open garage door and dragging a box containing 60 cupcakes into the parking lot, where it took a few minutes to gobble up the stolen merchandise.
Bakery employees said they were in the process of loading the sweets into a van for a delivery when the bear appeared and committed the theft.
A bakery worker, Maureen Williams, said she initially tried to scare the bear off by screaming.
“He turned and came towards me, and did what the DEEP [Departamento de Energía y Protección Ambiental de Connecticut] he calls a ‘bluff charge,’ where he made sort of a puffing noise, and then he came at me a little bit faster,” Williams told WTNH-TV.
“At that moment, I knew that I was not going to close the door. She was too close. So, I backed up and ran,” she added.
The Taste by Spellbound employee added that the bear eventually fled the area when another worker stopped his car where the animal was eating cupcakes and honked repeatedly.
